A little while ago, after meeting someone for the first time, we soon got onto discussing the importance of Bible study and personal devotion for oneself.

I gave the illustration of me chewing something for a while, which was good and tasty (like a succulent steak). Only to then offer what I was chewing to him, instead of giving him a fresh piece of his own or telling him to take and eat a piece for himself, so as to know the goodness first hand without any loss of flavour. Experience God’s Word like never before… All by yourself!

It is so important that we are getting into God’s Word by ourselves and primarily for ourselves (then for others).
If you are not consistently in the Word of God, is it because you are living satisfied with someone else’s chewed food? (Which could sustain you for a while perhaps, but might not taste as great had you eaten it first and while it carried ALL the nutrients).

Enjoy the flavour and favour first hand. Eat at the the table of the Lord, dine with Him, through intentional, ongoing, faithful, personal devotion in his Word. If we wouldn’t eat someone else’s chewed food, so let’s not do it when it comes to ‘…not living by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God…’ (Read Deuteronomy 8:3 and Matthew 4:4)
